Here Comes the Sun (Butter)
A silver lining of the COVID-19 pandemic is the amazing moments of generosity and support for those in need. These acts of kindness, both small and large, have been points of light in an incredibly difficult year. We are humbled by one such act by SunButter, makers of delicious sunflower butter made with simple ingredients, free from the top 8 food allergens, with more vitamins & minerals than most nut butters.
A part of our business that’s near and dear to our hearts — and different from our day-to-day financing work — is the Gerber Finance Foundation, which provides relief from food insecurity for children in New York. We do this through several programs including HOPE-Full Kids, a partnership with HOPE-Community Services of New Rochelle, where we provide breakfast and lunch for children in need on days when school meals are unavailable. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the issue of food insecurity; as many as 1 in 4 children don’t have adequate access to nutritious food, and we have seen a 78% increase in children participating in our program.
We have included SunButter as an important staple in our bags at the Hope-FULL Kids program since 2018. SunButter’s decision to donate their product to the program during this incredibly difficult year was an amazing surprise. They graciously donated 6,000 pouches of SunButter to provide a nutritious, allergen-free protein that kids love, for the entire 2020-2021 school year! Their kindness will positively impact the lives of so many kids for the better and truly spread some sunshine.
